It's amazing how much can change in two short years. This picture was taken on Halloween in 2006, the year Bear was Woody from Toy Story. He was 3 years old. He was THRILLED at being Woody -- it's a costume that Ken & Sharon bought for him at a Boy Scout auction when he was just tiny and he could finally wear it. Steve was goofing around outside and put the plastic cowboy hat on. I love this picture -- it shows his fun side and charming good looks. He's got that grin that just showed he was having a fun time. He was a handsome man -- he had the most beautiful brown eyes and the best hair. At his viewing, I could have stayed there for days, just stroking his hair.
I've been doing pretty well, all things considered, but today is kicking my ass. Steve loved Halloween. And not just as Bear's dad -- even before we became parents. He loved to see the kids in costume - he just got such a kick out of it.
I just miss his child-like excitement about things like Halloween... He mellowed me out and brought me back to earth and, in his own way, reminded me to enjoy the small things in life. That's why, when Bear wanted to decorate last weekend, I let him. I bet we're the only house on the block with purple spider garland mixed in with their plants! Our house is scary looking, but not quite in the way most people decorate for Halloween :) Aahhh...the decorating vision of a 5 year old.
